The former Beattie’s Department Store is being given a new lease on life through adaptive reuse, reconfiguration, and extension, transforming it into over 300 residential units set around landscaped gardens, with a commercial base to support ongoing city centre regeneration. Once a flagship destination and the heart of Wolverhampton’s shopping district, its decline and closure left a gap in the city’s identity. Now, it’s being reimagined for modern urban living and socialising. The cost-conscious approach keeps much of the original structure, introduces a parkland walkway through the site, and creates new elevations with residential units flanking central corridors. Extra height has been added to the strongest structures to avoid costly strengthening, and all buildings remain below the HRB threshold to meet budget and time constraints.
